September Reading List

free photo booksI hope everybody had a great Labour Day Weekend. Whether the kids are back in school or you are just getting back to your regular schedule, it is always a good time to add some books to your To Be Read pile.  Here are a few I found over the summer and enjoyed.

THE COPPER KING by Vivian Arend. This novella is actually a prequel to her Tahkini Wolves series (which I also enjoyed). Werebears, Las Vegas, and runaway brides. Do I really need to say more?

LOVE IN THE TIME OF ZOMBIES by Cassandra Gannon. I am not a zombie fan. Vampires, werewolves, aliens – all good. But zombies freak me out. Since this is not a zombie romance (yes, there is such a thing) but a paranormal one where the zombies are the monsters and are thus destroyed viciously, I read it. And I’m glad. It was absolutely hilarious. Coincidentally, also set in Las Vegas.

ACROSS THE LINE by Kate Willoughby – This is Kate’s second hockey romance and I loved it (and you know how I feel about sports). Fortunately, most of the action takes place off the ice and I can handle that. Kate wrote a lovely couple and created some excellent secondary characters. Try it, you’ll like it. She’s a great writer and friend.

THE ALL-GIRL FILLING STATION’S LAST REUNION by Fannie Flagg. If you haven’t read a Fannie Flagg book, you are missing a joyful read. She has a wonderful voice and living, breathing characters spring from her pages (in no way like zombies). This time she splits the narrative between a current-day 60-year-old woman and a 1940s female war-time pilot, and shows how we can still have an effect on people we have never met.

CRY NO MORE by Linda Howard. Howard is a very popular romantic suspense writer and this is the first book of hers that I read. It is about a woman trying to find her son who’d been kidnapped ten years earlier. Heartbreaking story.

IMITATION IN DEATH by JD Robb. One of the first true crime books I ever read was about Ted Bundy and to find him in again in a book set in 2059 gave me a chill. As always, Lieutenant Eve Dallas hunts down a killer (in this case, killers – someone is mimicking the greatest serial killers in history) with the help of her bazillionaire husband, Roarke.
